What to Expect on a St. Lucia Catamaran Sunset Cruise

Before you take a sunset cruise from Rodney Bay to Soufriere, it’s good to know what you’re signing up for. From the moment you step on board the catamaran boat, here’s what to expect! 

Departing From Rodney Bay Marina 

When you take a St. Lucia sunset cruise from Rodney Bay, the journey begins with transportation from your resort to the Rodney Bay Marina. At the pier, you’ll board a catamaran boat to explore the St. Lucia coastline.

As you sail, you’ll get to take in stunning views of the lush cliffs and crystal-clear bays, all leading in the direction of Soufrière, which is where you’ll find the Pitons. St. Lucia’s majestic volcanic peaks, Petit Piton and Gros Piton, are the most popular landmarks on the island and make for stunning photos. But there’s nothing quite like seeing them from the water as the sun is about to make its slow descent in the sky!

Heading down the coast, the emcee plays Caribbean soca music, reggae classics, international hits, and more – setting the tone for the experience and reminding you of where you are! As you make your way down the St. Lucian coast, the music will get interrupted every so often as the emcee tells you fun facts about landmarks and notable places – pointing out bucketlist-worthy resorts like Jade Mountain Resort, Ladera Resort, and Anse Chastanet Resort.

Make a Stop for Snorkeling, Swimming, or Taking In Epic Piton Views

During the St. Lucia sunset cruise the catamaran always makes a stop at the picturesque Marigot Bay to enjoy the view before making its way down to the dock in Soufriere to pick up more passengers. After that, the boat heads out to Jalousie Beach, otherwise known as Sugar Beach, for anyone interested in a St. Lucia snorkeling adventure.

If you decide to go snorkeling during your sunset cruise, it will be over the protected reefs at the Anse Piton Marine Reserve, which is located in front of the Sugar Beach property. Anse Piton is one of the best snorkeling spots in St. Lucia. When you snorkel here, you’ll find clear waters and hundreds of species of tropical fish! If you do choose to snorkel here, your gear will be provided by the boat crew.

An alternative to snorkeling at Anse Piton is swimming! You can explore the waters without going on an underwater adventure.

You don’t have to go swimming or snorkeling at Sugar Beach if you don’t want to. Anyone who wants to stay on the catamaran can sit back and relax, enjoy a beverage from the bar, and take in the views.  I actually love to stay on the boat for alllll of the breathtaking Piton views. This is one of my favorite parts of the St. Lucia catamaran sunset cruise because it’s the perfect time to get those picture-perfect Instagrammable photos! This stop is one of the reasons why I consider this to be the best sunset cruise in St. Lucia!

The Party Begins!

After the St. Lucia snorkeling stop, you will get back onboard the catamaran and make the journey back from Jalousie Beach to Rodney Bay. This is when the party really begins! I must admit: a St. Lucia sunset cruise is one of my FAVORITE ways to experience the island’s nightlife. 

As the catamaran sails off into the sunset, the boat comes alive more than ever before! There’s an open bar with unlimited Piton beers and (my personal favorite) the famous St. Lucia rum punch! You’ll also be served appetizers to snack on. 

The St. Lucia catamaran sunset cruise boat crew is so professional and really makes for an exciting, unforgettable time. They walk around taking pictures, pulling people up to the dance floor, and sometimes invite guests to go fishing with them! The crew knows exactly when and where to take that perfect picture of you between the Pitons. They’ll even take your sunset photos for you! 

What to Bring For Your St. Lucia Sunset Cruise 

If you’re going to take a sunset cruise, it’s important to know what to pack. Here’s what I suggest bringing: 

• Wear comfortable clothes. 
• Bring a swimsuit and towel if you plan to go swimming or snorkeling at Anse Piton. 
• Use biodegradable sunblock. 
• Wear sunglasses. 
• Bring cash for tips. 

Is the St. Lucia Catamaran Sunset Cruise Worth It? 

This is the best sunset cruise in St. Lucia! There are so many reasons I put this at the top of my list of things to do in St. Lucia every time I return to the island. I absolutely love sunsets, but there’s truly nothing like a Caribbean sunset cruise! Not only are the Piton views incredible, but the lively atmosphere, the music, the crew, and the rum punch make the whole experience worth it! If I could only choose one St. Lucia excursion when I visit the island, the sunset cruise would be it.

One of the things I love the most about the St. Lucia Piton cruise is that you can do it again and again, each time you visit the island. No two sunsets are identical, so it feels like a brand new experience every time — each beautiful in its own way!
