What It’s Like to Hike Tet Paul

Hiking Tet Paul Nature Trail is one of the best ways to experience incredible Piton views. The trail is tucked into the hills above Soufrière, approximately a 10-minute drive from town. The Tet Paul Nature Trail itself is short — just under a mile round-trip — and takes about 45 minutes to complete, but you can really take as long as you want!

The Tet Paul hiking trail is rated easy to moderate, which makes it perfect for families, casual hikers, or anyone who wants to experience the magic of the Pitons without actually having to hike one. (Petit Peton and Gros Piton are much more challenging St. Lucia hikes and best suited for experienced hikers.)

Keep in mind that there are A LOT of stair on Tet Paul Nature Trail. Fortunately, there are plenty of opportunities to slow down, pause, and take in the views!

One of the things that makes this one of the best hiking trails in St. Lucia is what we got to experience along the way. We waked through an organic farm bursting with cassava, guava, soursop, and more. We passed a traditional house that gave us a glimpse into how families lived on this land for generations. There’s also a stop called Kaye Kassav, where you can learn about the traditional process of cassava baking.

If you know anything about me, you know I love experiencing culture — and it was the little culture touches like this that made the Tet Paul hiking trail more than just a hike. It gave me a taste of St. Lucia culture. That’s why I highly recommend adding this trail to your list of things to do in St. Lucia.

The Two Viewpoints on Tet Paul Nature Trail

There are two main viewpoints you’ll come across when hiking Tet Paul Nature Trail, and both of them are worth slowing down for. Both are magical in their own way.

You come across the first viewpoint as you descend a few steps into a quiet outcrop. This viewpoint offers stunning Petit Piton views. It’s the perfect place to stop for some photos! We paused here for awhile — not just to snap a few photos, but because we came across something I wasn’t expecting to find on this St. Lucia hiking trail: hummingbirds everywhere!

This area was covered in flowering trees, and hummingbirds were buzzing through the blossoms beside us — darting in and out of the trees. The hummingbirds made the Tet Paul Nature Trail hike such an enchanting experience! It’s one of the reasons why it’s one of my favorite things to do in St. Lucia.

The first viewpoint was also the perfect place to catch our breath. We stood there for a few minutes, just taking in the unforgettable view of Petit Piton.

Eventually, we made our way back up to the stairs, continuing towards the trail’s final destination: the “Stairway to Heaven.” This is where the real magic happens and why Tet Paul is widely considered one of the best hikes in St. Lucia.

From the top of this viewpoint, you can see Gros Piton on the right and Petit Piton on the left, perfectly framed by the Caribbean Sea and rolling cliffs below. You’ll also get a panoramic view of Jalousie Bay. On a clear day, you can even see Maria Islands out in the distance!

This view is the entire reason why people hike the Pitons, but honestly? The viewpoint you get to experience when hiking Tet Paul Nature Trail is even better, because you get to see both Gros Piton and Petit Piton at the same time — a view that you would not get when hiking the Pitons. This viewpoint also gives you an Instagrammable worthy view without the exhaustion you’d experience from the strenuous hike that comes with hiking Petit Piton or Gros Piton.

The magic of these viewpoints has left me dreaming about the Tet Paul Nature Trail ever since!

Hike a Guide or Book a Tour For This St. Lucia Hike!

When I decided to hike Tet Paul, I went with a local friend and hired a guide at the entrance. I highly recommend hiring a guide for two reasons: it supports the local community, and the guides typically share insight about the plants, history, and culture that tourists would never catch on their own.

This St. Lucia hiking trail is also perfect for a full day of excursions. Consider booking a guided tour to pair it with other Soufrière attractions. Tet Paul fits perfectly into a full day of St. Lucia excursions, such as Sulphur Springs, New Jerusalem Mineral Baths, and Toraille Waterfall. Book your Tet Paul Nature hike excursion now! Be sure the pack cash, so you can tip your guide after your hike is over!
