As someone who has visited St. Lucia many times, I can honestly say there are few places that match the island’s natural beauty! From its turquoise, clear waters and white powdery sand to dramatic volcanic landscapes, the island’s beaches have something to offer every type of traveler! Whether you’re looking for relaxing, family-friendly St. Lucia beaches, beaches that are perfect for snorkeling, or some of the most unique beaches, this island has it all!

To help you plan the island escape of your dreams, I’ve compiled a list of the seven best beaches in St. Lucia! 

1. Sugar Beach (Jalousie Beach) — Soufrière

The Vibe:  An iconic, postcard-worthy beach that offers breathtaking luxury. 

Why Visit: With its location in a valley between the two Pitons (Gros Piton and Petit Piton), Sugar Beach offers one of the most dramatic views in St. Lucia. The white sand creates a stunning contrast against the turquoise waters.

Sugar Beach is most famously known as one of the best spots for St. Lucia snorkeling! The waters are home to trumpetfish, butterflyfish, parrotfish, moray eels, squid, and eagle rays! I’ve gone snorkeling at Sugar Beach and found it to be an unforgettable experience!

Know Before You Go: Although Sugar Beach is home to the Viceroy resort, all St. Lucia beaches are legally open to the public. Non-resort guests who want to enjoy this beach can park at the top of the lot and walk down or take a paid shuttle.

2. Reduit Beach — Rodney Bay

The Vibe: A high-energy, bustling, classic Caribbean, family-friendly beach. 

Why Visit: Spanning along Rodney Bay, Reduit Beach is one of the most popular beaches in St. Lucia. It’s one of the most accessible beaches on the island, which is part of the reason why it’s so popular. Featuring miles of golden sand and calm, swimmable waters, this is the most family-friendly St. Lucia beach.

Due to its calm waters, Reduit Beach is a popular place to enjoy watersports. You can enjoy motorized watersports here, such as jetskiing and parasailing, along with kayaking, paddleboarding, water skiing, wakeboarding, and windsurfing. Reduit Beach is also home to Splash Island Water Park, one of the only water parks in St. Lucia. Offering a unique floating obstacle course, this is perfect for a family-friendly St. Lucia vacation!

One of the things I love the most about Reduit Beach is that it’s lined with beach bars and restaurants, including one of my personal favorites: Spinnakers. It’s easy to grab a bite while enjoying a day at this St. Lucia beach!  

Know Before You Go: Reduit is the best beach in St. Lucia for watching the sunset with a cocktail in hand!

3. Anse Chastanet — Soufrière

The Vibe: A volcanic, rustic-chic underwater paradise with iconic views. 

Why Visit: With its location just north of Soufrière, this is one of the beaches in St. Lucia that’s known for its unique sand! It has dark volcanic sand that ranges from dark gray to a deep charcoal/black color. The beach is surrounded by lush, steep hillsides, offering picturesque Caribbean views.

What makes this one of the best beaches in St. Lucia can be found right offshore: a protected marine reserve that has a colorful coral reef where you’ll find parrotfish, sergeant majors, French angelfish, blue tangs, sea turtles, and other marine life. This marine reserve makes Anse Chastanet one of the most popular places for St. Lucia snorkeling!

Know Before You Go: Take the 10-minute flat coastal path from Anse Chastanet to Anse Mamin, a quieter, secluded black-sand St. Lucia beach with a famous beachside burger shack. 

4. Pigeon Island Beach — Gros Islet

The Vibe: A historic, peaceful, and Instagrammable beach. 

Why Visit: Located within (and just outside) Pigeon Island National Landmark, these quiet coves feature soft sand, shallow turquoise waters, and natural shade beneath the sea grape trees. It’s one of the best beaches in St. Lucia for anyone who wants to combine beach time with adventure and history.

The calm, clear waters at Pigeon Island Beach are perfect for swimming and St. Lucia snorkeling for beginners. It’s also a popular spot for kayaking, scuba diving, and other water activities. Since Pigeon Island National Landmark is a popular place for hiking to check out the 18th-century military ruins, it’s a great place for a day trip during your St. Lucia vacation.

With so much to do and its calm waters, Pigeon Island Beach is one of the most family-friendly beaches in St. Lucia! 

Know Before You Go: The beaches located inside the National Landmark do require you to pay a small entry fee. This helps prevent Pigeon Island Beach from getting as crowded as nearby Reduit Beach. 

5. Anse Cochon — Anse La Raye / Canaries

The Vibe: A hidden cove and snorkeling haven!

Why Visit: Translating to “Bay of Pigs,” this secluded West Coast cove features a mix of dark and golden sand set against quiet, crystalline waters. Anse Cochon is one of the best St. Lucia snorkeling and scuba diving spots. The coral reef sits close to the shore, so you can actually see colorful schools of fish without even needing a boat!

Anse Cochon is also known for its dark, volcanic sands, which are often described as silver-gray. One of the best parts about Anse Cochon is that it’s much more secluded than many of the beaches in St. Lucia.

Know Before You Go: There are two ways to access this St. Lucia beach: through boat tours or driving down a rough road through Ti Kaye Resort.

6. Smuggler’s Cove — Cap Estate

The Vibe: An intimate local secret offering rugged charm. 

Why Visit: Tucked away on the northernmost tip of the island, Smuggler’s Cove is framed by steep, lush cliffs that give it a hidden-away feel. It’s one of the best beaches in St. Lucia for anyone looking for a secluded beach. 

This area is known for its views. The elevated cliffs and clear Caribbean waters are picture-perfect. This St. Lucia beach is a popular place to get incredible photos. 

The sheltered bay makes this a great spot for swimming and paddleboarding. It’s another great spot for St. Lucia snorkeling, since the rocky areas along the cove are a great place to spot tropical fish and other marine life!

Know Before You Go: The popular St. Lucia restaurant, the Naked Fisherman, is located on the beach. It’s a great place to grab lunch while enjoying a day at one of the most private beaches in St. Lucia!

7. Marigot Bay Beach — Marigot Bay

The vibe: Picturesque, nautical, and sheltered.

Why Visit: Famous for being a filming location for Doctor Dolittle, there are so many great reasons to check out this St. Lucia beach. The beach sits in a stunning, sheltered bay surrounded by green hills and palm trees.

But what’s more interesting is the history of the bay itself. It’s a hurricane hideaway for luxury yachts; Marigot Bay is one of the most stunning natural harbors in the entire Caribbean.

The calm waters make this one of the best beaches in St. Lucia for swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding, and pedal boating. It’s also another spot to go snorkeling in St. Lucia. Thanks to its calm waters, this is considered one of the most family-friendly beaches in St. Lucia.

Know Before You Go: You’ll take a quick, 2-minute ferry/water taxi across the water to reach the sandpit, where you can lounge, rent kayaks, or grab lunch at waterfront restaurants.
