Things to Do in St. Lucia: New Jerusalem Mineral Baths

Some of the best travel experiences aren’t the ones you plan. Sometimes they’re the ones you happen to stumble into. And that is exactly how I discovered one of my favorite things to do in St. Lucia: the unforgettable New Jerusalem Mineral Baths.

It all started when a local friend and I were sightseeing and exploring waterfalls in Soufrière. We had just left the very popular (and quite busy) Toraille Falls when he turned to me and told me I had two options. One was a cold waterfall, and the other was a warm one.

After just experiencing the chill of the previous fall, I jumped at the chance to get warm. New Jerusalem Falls Mineral Baths was our next stop, and it quickly became one of the highlights of my trip! Tucked away from the crowds, it felt like discovering a hidden side of St. Lucia—one that most travelers miss out on.

If you’re looking for a hidden gem that feels like a secret garden sanctuary, this locally owned, family-run St. Lucia attraction is a must-see. New Jerusalem is home to some of the best St. Lucia hot springs, ideal for anyone seeking a quiet escape from the crowds.

If you’re looking for unique things to do in St. Lucia, this hidden spot absolutely deserves a place on your itinerary! Here’s what to expect when you visit.

New Jerusalem Mineral Baths in St. Lucia: A Hidden Oasis

It seems that no matter how many times you visit St. Lucia, the island still has secrets!

New Jerusalem Mineral Baths isn’t one of those places you’ll find plastered all over Instagram or in glossy travel brochures. It’s rare to even find a tour bus there. In fact, if it wasn’t for my local friend, I wouldn’t have even known that this St. Lucia attraction existed! He just happened to remember it was one of the best things to do in St. Lucia for nature lovers.

The entrance to New Jerusalem is generally unmissable, with a giant sign welcoming you to the St. Lucia mineral baths along the side of the road. But since the sign sometimes gets covered by vegetation, it’s best to use your GPS to find it. We parked along the side of the road and made our way to the trail that leads down to the mineral baths.

We were only a few minutes into the Soufrière hike when we ran into an exhausted-looking man dragging a stroller up the trail with his young son. Several minutes later, his wife followed with a baby in tow. We got a good laugh out of that because they either underestimated the trail and accessibility of this St. Lucia attraction, or the wife probably convinced him it was necessary, and he agreed to bring it, attempting to appease her. Either way, it was very clear that he was paying for it by the time he reached the trailhead.

The path to get to the New Jerusalem Mineral Baths felt like an adventure in itself and easily ranks among the more unique things to do in Soufrière if you’re into exploring. It was a short downhill hike through a muddy trail that led us deeper into the rainforest. The further we got, the louder the sound of the river became, and the more the birds came alive. The tropical vegetation was gorgeous. It was very clear that we were wandering into some kind of hidden oasis! It felt like we had wandered onto the set of a George of the Jungle-style adventure in St. Lucia.

As we made our way down, we reached our first crossing. There was no other way to get to the New Jerusalem Mineral Baths in St. Lucia but to walk on rocks in the stream to get to the other side. After that, we were greeted by a red bridge that led us across the powerful river and deeper into the rainforest. A few short moments later, we stumbled upon stone stairs surrounded by colorful tropical plants and a stream running alongside them. The combination of rainforest trails, natural scenery, and hidden mineral baths makes this one of the most memorable things to do in St. Lucia! Once we got to the top, we knew we were in the right place!

Located about 10 minutes from Soufrière, St. Lucia, the New Jerusalem Mineral Baths make a great addition to your St. Lucia itinerary! Entry typically costs $4-8 USD, so be sure to bring cash.

The hike to the St. Lucia mineral baths is short (only about ½ mile or 0.8 km round-trip), but it winds through a lush rainforest trail that can get muddy. It’s ideal to wear water shoes or study sandals. Once you arrive, you’ll find three warm mineral pools, along with one cooler mineral pool for a refreshing dip.

If you’re looking for a peaceful alternative to the St. Lucia mud baths, these hidden mineral baths in Soufrière are a great option. Unlike the more crowded Sulfur Springs in Soufrière, the New Jerusalem Mineral Baths are a more tranquil and relaxing place! It’s perfect for couples looking for things to do on a St. Lucia honeymoon or romantic getaway, as well as solo travelers or anyone looking for a quiet escape from reality!

Soaking in Pure Relaxation: One of the Best Things to Do in St. Lucia

The New Jerusalem Mineral Baths are a hidden escape, surrounded by lush colorful vegetation and divided into three stone pools. These St. Lucia mineral pools were built into a cliff along the river and feel very much like nature’s infinity pool. Each one is naturally heated by volcanic minerals, making the water the perfect temperature for a relaxing soak! It’s truly one of the most relaxing St. Lucia attractions!

There’s also a cooler stone pool located further up the hill, but we never made it that far. The Soufrière mineral pools are so secluded and off-the-beaten-path that it’s very likely you’ll have the entire thing to yourself. When we went, there was a couple soaking in another one of the baths, but we didn’t even notice.

Unlike the Sulfur Springs, New Jerusalem Mineral Baths isn’t a “mud” experience.  It’s purely for soaking in the St. Lucia hot springs! The geothermal mineral water flows through bamboo logs, cascading over you with a pressure that feels like the ultimate natural massage. You’ll feel your stress melt away as the warm water works its magic. It’s so peaceful and soothing!

I sank into the first pool, taking in all of the sights and sounds from the surrounding rainforest. The geothermal mineral water flows through the bamboo logs, filling up each pool. These bamboo logs can be powerful enough to give you a massage — which may be exactly what you’re looking for if you’re doing a lot of hiking in St. Lucia!

We relaxed and let the water do its thing while I stared out at the canopy of giant leaves and colorful plants and listened to the birds. New Jerusalem Mineral Baths is such a beautiful place to drink in the island’s natural beauty and let time slip away, which is why it’s one of my favorite things to do in St. Lucia.

I might have let time slip away a little too much because our 30-minute stop had quickly turned into several hours of swimming and relaxing. Honestly, I probably could have spent my entire St. Lucia vacation in the mineral baths! I hadn’t even noticed the other couple had left, that there were no waterfalls at New Jerusalem (my friend accidentally confused it with Piton Falls), or that the sun had already started to set! We were there so late that the owner was actually patiently waiting nearby for us to leave so he could lock up for the night.

We had a full list of things to do in Soufrière that day, but I was enjoying the mineral baths too much to leave. I was in no hurry. After pushing my plans back several times while at the  St. Lucia mineral baths, I decided the rest of my itinerary could wait for another day.

As we made our way back across the river and up the trail to the vehicle, I knew I would be dreaming about New Jerusalem Mineral Baths forever.

And I have been.
